Kitzbühel Sports

Kitzbühel is famous not only in Austria but all over the world because of the various sports within the town especially during the winter. These sports are played between the Hahnenkamm Mountains and the Kitzbühler Horn. Hahnenkamm is famous for hosting the races for the World Cup Skiing which is held every year.

The downhill race which takes place at the Streif slope is especially very popular and attracts spectators from all over the world. The downhill race is popular because it is very tough and risky but also very interesting. During summer, this town hosts ATP tennis tournaments. The town is also popular for the Kitzbüheler Alpenrallye which is an historic annual motor racing festival.

Kitzbühel is a popular tourist destination point in Austria. It receives very many local Austrian and foreign tourists. It has very many tourist accommodation facilities with approximately 10,000 guest house beds and hotels. Statistics also show that there are slopes of approximately 168 kilometers, skiing tracks of 40 kilometers and at least 56 lift facilities and cable ways.

For those who want to take summer holiday within the town there are mountain bike paths approximately 120 kilometers and hiking trails of about 500 kilometers. Other tourist attractions in the town include 4 golf courses and 6 tennis courts, curling hall (the only one in Austria) swimming pool and the Schwarzsee bathing lake.

Kitzbühel is a small and ancient town in Tyrol, Austria. It is situated near the Kitzbüheler Ache River and is a center for sports like ski resort and tourism. At the beginning of 2010, this town had a population of 8,204. It is the administrative center of Bezirk district.

It is located within Kitzbühel Alps and within a distance of about 62 miles (100 kilometers) to the east of Innsbruck which is the state capital of Austria. Kitzbühel borough is subdivided in to 24 municipalities. It also borders seven other municipalities of Reith bei Kitzbühel, St. Johann in Tirol, Kirchberg in Tirol, Fieberbrunn, Aurach bei Kitzbühel, Oberndorf in Tirol and Jochberg.

Tourism in Kitzbühel

Together with the pistes and ski lifts in neighbouring Kirchberg in Tirol, Jochberg and by the Thurn Pass Kitzbühel is one of the largest ski regions in Austria. With around 10,000 hotel and guest house beds, Kitzbühel and its neighbours have an unusually high density of guest accommodation.

Holidaymakers in Kitzbühel have 56 cableway and lift facilities and 168 kilometres of slopes available to them as well as 40 kilometres of groomed cross-country skiing tracks. Of note is the relatively new 3S Cable Car, the cable car with the highest above ground span in the world.

In summer there are 120 km of mountain bike paths and 500 km of hiking trails.

Other attractions are the six tennis courts and four golf courses, the Kitzbühel swimming pool, Austria’s only curling hall and the bathing lake of Schwarzsee.

Kitzbühel also caters for the high end of the tourist market, as many celebrities and the jet set come here for the international races on the Hahnenkamm.
